Pre-Booking Information

Below is some pre-treatment and pre-booking information about the lip blushing process and procedure.

Helpful information

Listed below are some highlights regarding the lip blushing procedure.

Applications and Touch-ups

  • Lip micropigmentation enhancements normally require multiple applications. The desired result can typically be achieved by completing an initial lip blushing appointment and one touchup 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment.

  • Some clients may require additional touchups to get the desired results if they have scarring on the lips, do not follow aftercare instructions or have naturally darker pigmented lips.

  • Aftercare plays an important role in pigment retention and longevity.

  • Additional touchups are recommended 18+ months or when pigmentation starts to fade. Depending on the client and their skin some lip blushing can last 2-5 years.

  • Lips blushing pigment will not become patchy but slowly fade after years so you can let it slowly fade or book a touchup to keep it looking fresh for years to come.

Color

  • Be prepared for the color intensity to be sharper and darker immediately after procedure. This will subside and become softer as the skin heals. Usually the color will lighten 30-50%.

  • Be ready to discuss color options with the technician. You can also bring along your favorite lip color as a starting point.

  • You may decide to go more conservative on color during your first treatment and that is ok! We can always change the color slightly during your touchup to get you to a color you will enjoy for years to come!

  • Keep in mind that you want to chose a color that will be suitable 24 hours a day, with or without makeup.

Contraindications

  • Dermal fillers, electrolysis and professional chemical peels should be performed no less than 4 week prior to procedure.

  • Make sure to discuss medical history with your technician so they can check any contraindications.

  • If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex) make sure to discuss this with your technician so they can give you the best pre and post appointment advice to reduce flair ups. The healing process will trigger an outbreak if precaution is not taken. Preventative medication is a must prior to your appointment. You should schedule no earlier than 3-5 days out so you have sufficient time to begin preventative medication.

Is Lip Blushing right for you?

  • Clients who have a history of keloid scarring or hyperpigmentation are not good candidates for lip blushing.

  • Suitable for clients between I-IV on the Fitzpatrick scale. Skin tones V-VI require 'dark lip neutralization', which is currently not offered. I am hoping to add that in 2023!

  • Clients who are pregnant are not good candidates for lip blushing.

  • If you have a loss of definition or lip color due to aging lip blushing is a great way to add both back to your lips.

  • Lip blushing does not fix asymmetry, but can modestly attempt to even out small inconsistencies while staying within your natural borders. Noticeable asymmetry is usually corrected with the use of fillers.

Appointment Overview

  • During your consult your technician will go over your color options and lip mapping/shape for approval by your before the session starts. We also provide corresponding lip blushes to try on to test out the color!

  • A local topical anesthetic is applied to take the edge off.

  • Lips will be red and swollen after the procedure so keep this in mind for the day of and any plans you may have after your appointment

  • You will be provided with specific aftercare instructions and ointments.
